The Competition Commission of India is pleased to attend and contribute to the 9th BRICS International Competition Conference (BRICS ICC) from 10–11 September 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The theme of this year’s conference, i.e. “Competition Law in Uncertain Times”, aptly reflects the dynamic challenges and emerging opportunities confronting global markets today. The profound and diverse transformations underway in international markets underscore the need for deeper collaboration and open dialogue among BRICS nations. In this context, the BRICS competition authorities have continuously endeavoured to develop robust institutional frameworks and effective enforcement mechanisms. The recent expansion of the BRICS platform has significantly enhanced its relevance on the global stage.

The dedicated BRICS Working Groups have made noteworthy progress in key sectors such as Renewable Energy, Digital Markets, Food, and Pharmaceuticals. These collaborative efforts are central to our shared goal of fostering fair, inclusive, and competitive markets. However, the journey towards achieving this vision is not without its challenges, especially in the face of rapidly evolving, technology-driven markets that call for a more coordinated and coherent approach to competition law and policy.

The 9th BRICS ICC aims to provide a vital platform for exchanging insights and perspectives on the most pressing issues in the field. We look forward to the discussions on issues such as sustainability, food and commodity, AI, etc., which are highly relevant to the current global competition policy landscape and will help strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.

I would like to congratulate and thank the Competition Commission of South Africa for organising this Conference. Together, we stand united in our commitment to nurturing resilient, fair, and competitive markets that advance the prosperity of our people and the strength of our economies.
